almost time…

Dear Kid,
there are only a few days left.
soon you will be leaving that constricting, moist enclosure and joining the world.
you will see your first sunrise.
ride in your first car.
shit in your first diaper.

everything is prepared for the most part. your crib, bassinet, changing table, dresser… everything is all set up.
i bought you your very first run dmc and godfather onesies.
your grandmother (my mother) is sending 2 or 3 boxes full of things…
the only thing we dont have is a travel system.
your other grandmother (your moms mom) is kinda flaking on that one…. im about ready to accept the fact that you will be coming home duct taped to the trunk of my car.

here are some things you should know.
#1 lets just get this out of the way… im not really crazy about the name ‘jason’. all of the names i chose were rejected fairly quickly. tossed aside as a joke. im starting to think that nothing i say or want will ever be taken seriously.
it worries me.
#2 you have 4 grandmothers…. which means you are one lucky bastard.
#3 my grandparents (on my mothers side) saved everything (my grandparents on my fathers side were douchbags…. well not my grandfather, i actually liked him… but my grandmother was a total douche… i always wondered how she felt when she died, knowing that no one gave a shit.) so anyway… they saved every thing… so some of your baby blankets were my baby blankets… and im pretty sure the outfit you were home from the hospital will be the one i wore home from the hospital. im told you cant have my old toys… because they contain lead. im not sure why they would be bad for you… i played with them… and i turned out fine.
#3 your aunt is slightly insane. if you ever stay with her you should expect to stay indoors at all times… because apparently wind will take your breath away… im not sure if she thinks fans will do the same thing… ill try to convince her that artificial wind doesn’t count.
#4 we have a cat… shes like my first child. she may very well get into the crib with you… ill try to keep her out, but i cant promise you anything.

it is now 2 am… i have been sitting here writting this in hopes that the torrent for tonights dexter episode will be posted… but it doesnt look like its going to be. so i think im going to go to bed… i have to be up for work tommorow at 6am…
thats another reason i am looking forward to having you with us….
when you are born i get to take two weeks off of work.

and i desperately need a vacation.
